Barbara Alfaro has a way of putting words together that makes me want to paint them. I digress momentarily with a flashback to a time when my Austrian mother, so caught up in the moment with my young kids, announced "Zum fressen so lieb!" (So darling I could eat them up!). [That was at a time when my kids were little and quite delicious.] I feel a lot like my mother did when I'm reading Alfaro's poems--I want to eat them up.
Whether the outpourings of little children or the clarity in Alfaro's simple language of truth, certain things just find their way to our core being. I wish I had Alfaro's ability of verbal distillation as I deeply admire her skill. Alas, I must use the stroke of my brush instead of pen. Here is my first attempt in quite awhile at finding my quiet and getting some soul things out.
